Governor, Koshyari congratulate Garhwal Post on completion of 3 decades of publication

Dehradun, 22 Aug: Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) today emphasised that the convergence of education, science and Artificial Intelligence (AI) would shape the direction of future India. He said education would remain the basic foundation, science the power to explore and understand, and AI the medium that would give new momentum to knowledge and talent. Singh was addressing the Education Conclave and Garhwal Post Awards ceremony organised at the Lok Bhavan here today. The Garhwal Post Awards ceremony and the Education Conclave were organised to commemorate 30 years of publication of Garhwal Post.
On this occasion, the Governor congratulated editor Satish Sharma and the entire Garhwal Post team on completing 30 years of publication. He said that, over the past three decades, Garhwal Post had given due space in its journalism to the making of Uttarakhand, its achievements, challenges and aspirations. He also added that Garhwal Post now should consider expansion to Kumaon and also should consider pan India expansion and plan where it should reach over next few decades.
The Governor also reminded the gathering that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had from the state itself declared that the third decade of the current century belonged to Uttarakhand and that the century belonged to India.
The Governor said the media is an important medium of public communication in a democracy. In the digital age and the era of AI, he said, the importance of truth, facts, credibility and responsibility in journalism has increased further. The medium of communication might change but the fundamental values of journalism should never change, he emphasised.
He said AI should be used to take quality education, healthcare services and expert knowledge to remote and geographically difficult areas. The need of the hour is to ensure that young people do not remain merely users of AI, but develop into creators, researchers and innovators capable of using the technology to address real-world challenges.
Former Governor and Chief Minister Padma Bhushan awardee Bhagat Singh Koshyari said knowledge was neither confined to the past nor limited to the present or future, but was an eternal and continuously flowing process. The future, too, would be built on the foundation of knowledge, he said.
Addressing the gathering, Padma Bhushan awardee Bhagat Singh Koshyari stressed upon the need to promote a culture of thinking, reflection and continuous learning in education. He said the education system should encourage students not merely to acquire information but also to develop the ability to think independently, understand issues deeply and continue learning throughout their lives. Koshyari said that technology can provide data and information but it can’t teach Sanskaras in the young mind. He said, that in view of what he has seen happening currently in the country, he feels that the Gen Z also needs to be imparted traditional values and Sanskaras by the parents and the teachers. He recalled that Swami Vivekananda had also stressed on an alignment between Indian spirituality and Western knowledge of science to take the world ahead. He asserted that it would be more appropriate to describe the Future of Education as future education, as education has no past, present or future. It is an eternal thing but in future, too, education should be driven not only by technology but also by the sanskaaras.
On the occasion, the Governor also honoured 30 persons for their outstanding contribution in various fields, including social service, art, literature and education, as part of the celebrations marking the completion of 30 years of Garhwal Post. Those honoured included former Maharashtra Governor and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Padma Bhushan awardee Bhagat Singh Koshyari.
A poetic adaptation of ‘Vatayana – Rashtrawadi Sikh Ki Jeevan Yatra’, based on the life of the Governor, was also released on the occasion. Describing the release as an emotionally significant moment for him, the Governor congratulated author Ravindra Saini for the work. He said his own life journey had been one of national service, discipline, struggle and continuous learning. He expressed the hope that the work would inspire young people to move forward with determination, dedication and the spirit of putting the nation first.
