Haridwar1 Jan: Strict action has been taken in the case related to sale of adulterated liquor at a country liquor shop in the Shahpur area of Pathri, District Haridwar. Taking serious note of the incident related to sale of adulterated liquor, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami ordered strict action against the officials for their negligence. Subsequently, Excise Inspector Sanjay Rawat, posted in the Haridwar Circle, has been suspended, while District Excise Officer Harish Joshi has been transferred to Haldwani. The liquor vend in question has also been sealed. The liquor vender is suspected to be the mastermind behind the adulteration.

It may be recalled that, following some complaints in this regard, a team led by Dehradun District Excise Officer Prabhashankar Mishra had raided the country liquor shop in Shahpur on Monday. Excise officials from district Haridwar were not taken into confidence regarding the raid. During the raid, adulterated liquor was discovered, raising questions about the possible involvement or role of the local excise department behind the adulteration being done. CM Dhami took cognisance of the incident, resulting in the suspension of Excise Inspector Rawat and the transfer of District Excise Officer Joshi to Haldwani.

An inquiry in this regard is under progress. A separate report has been sent for action against the accused. During the raid, it was discovered that liquor was being extracted from tetra packs using syringes, and water or other liquids were mixed in and sealed with Fevikwik.

Adulterated liquor was being sold at the Shahpur country liquor shop in Haridwar district. There is also suspicion that some poisonous chemicals might have been inserted in the tetra packs, posing a significant threat to public health. As per the records of the excise department, Kanika Karnawal is the liquor vend’s licensee, but Joginder Langra was allegedly running the vend and engaging in illegal activities.
