Forest Corporation Chairman Kailash Gahtodi passes away

Governor, CM condole demise of Gahtodi

Dehradun, 3 May: Chairman of the Uttarakhand Forest Development Corporation (UaFDC) and former MLA Kailash Gahtodi passed away this morning. Kailash Gahtodi, who was battling illness for a long time, breathed his last this morning at Doon Hospital. Sources claimed that Gahtodi had been battling cancer for a long time. It may be recalled that Kailash Gahtodi had resigned as an MLA after winning the Champawat assembly seat to enable Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami contest the byelection from there in 2022. Gahtodi’s mortal remains reached his residence in Kashipur this afternoon for the last rites.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is among those who are due to attend his last rites. Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) and the Chief Minister are among those who have condoled the demise of Gahtodi. Governor Gurmit Singh expressed condolences to the bereaved family while praying for peace to the departed soul. In his condolence message, CM Dhami said that he is shocked to hear the painful news of the demise of Forest Development Corporation Chairman, former MLA, a dear friend and elder brother Kailash Gahtodi. Dhami added that Gahtodi’s demise is a personal loss not only for the party organisation and the state of Uttarakhand but a huge personal loss for him. Paying rich tribute to Gahtodi, the CM added that he spent his entire life in public service and will always be remembered as an ideal public representative. As an MLA, his dedication towards the development of Champawat area is a source of inspiration for all. He described the former MLA as an elder brother and a good friend and promised that he will work dedicatedly towards the fulfilment of the dreams that Gahtodi saw for Champawat.

Union Minister of State Ajay Bhatt, Almora MP Ajay Tamta and BJP State President Mahendra Bhatt also paid rich tributes to Gahtodi. Cabinet Ministers Subodh Uniyal, Ganesh Joshi, Prem Chand Aggarwal and Rekha Arya have also condoled the passing away of Gahtodi.

As soon as the news regarding the demise of Gahtodi spread, people started gathering at his official residence here in Dehradun as well as at his personal residence at Girital Road in Kashipur. This afternoon the mortal remains of Gahtodi reached Kashipur for the last rites in the presence of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

It may be recalled that Gahtodi had won the elections from Champawat in 2017 and 2022. However, he vacated his seat by resigning soon after the election in 2022 to enable Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to contest a by-election in order to continue as CM as Dhami had lost from his traditional Khatima assembly seat.

Incidentally, Gahtodi was the first BJP leader to get the Lal Batti post equivalent to the rank of Cabinet Minister as Chairman of UaFDC soon after his resignation as MLA in 2022.
