Former DGP Ashok Kumar appointed VC of Sports University in Rai

Dehradun, 28 Feb: Former Director General of Police (DGP), Uttarakhand, Ashok Kumar has been appointed as Vice Chancellor of Motilal Nehru Sports University in Rai (Sonipat) by Chief Minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar.

It may be recalled that Ashok Kumar is a resident of Kurana village in Haryana and is an avid sportsperson himself. He has been All India Police Badminton Champion while serving in the Indian Police Service. An IPS officer of 1989 cadre, Ashok Kumar is an alumnus of IIT Delhi and has participated in Badminton tournaments as an IITian too.

Kumar has also been associated with sports administration for a long time. His wife, Alaknanda Ashok, Dean at GBPUAT University, Pantnagar, is currently Joint Secretary of the Indian Olympic Association. Their daughter, Kuhu Garg, has achieved accolades for the country as a badminton player of international repute, having won 16 international medals in the sport and is a renowned doubles player.

Ashok Kumar had an excellent record in the police service and played a significant role in pro-people policing and effective cyber policing in Uttarakhand.
