FRI holds online seminar on ‘Strategies for Forestry Extension’

Dehradun, 3 Jul: The Extension Division, ICFRE- Forest Research Institute, conducted a Divisional level online seminar on “Strategies for Forestry Extension”, here, today. At the outset, Dr Charan Singh, Scientist-F, Extension Division introduced the organising team and invited Richa Misra, Head, Extension Division, for opening remarks and the welcome address. Richa Misra welcomed the Director and all participants. In her welcome address, she spoke on the importance and necessity of the seminar and said it is a common platform to share the views and create new ideas for effective and efficient forestry extension and helpful in planning a proper and effective extension strategy in people participatory mode.

Director Dr Renu Singh inaugurated the seminar and addressed the 80 participants. In her inaugural address, she spoke about the importance of Extension Forestry for welfare of the rural and urban communities. She emphasised that extension of forestry in non forest areas can also be helpful in mitigation of climate change with livelihood generation. She mentioned that there are many opportunities for extension of forestry. She reminded that the institute is doing ommendable work for dissemination of its technologies through different extension media such as Van Vigyan Kendras under jurisdiction of the institute in Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Union Territories of Delhi and Chandigarh. Besides, the institute is also carrying out extension activities under the networking of Van Vigyan Kendra and Krishi Vigyan Kendra. The Forest Research Institute is also active on social media for dissemination of scientific knowledge generated by it in the field of forestry.

During the technical session, Dr Bankey Bihari, Principal Scientist from ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Dehradun, made a presentation on “Strategies for Forestry Extension”. In his presentation, he spoke about the prospects of forestry extension and possible areas of for its extension beyond forests. During the discussion, participants raised queries and questions on the subject and the subject expert answered them all.

The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Charan Singh, Scientist-F of Extension Division. All team members of the division, including Scientists, Rambir Singh and Lokinder Sharma with supporting technical staff Naveen Chauhan, Pawan Devshali, Amit Singh and Pushkar Singh did commendable work to make the seminar successful.
