Dehradun, 25 Nov: The Forest Products Division, Forest Research Institute (FRI), here, is hosting a five-day short-term training programme on “Reconstituted Wood and Handmade Paper from Lantana” from 25 to 29 November. The training sessions are being conducted at the Cellulose & Paper Discipline and Composite Wood Discipline, Forest Products Division, aimed at equipping participants with practical knowledge on the development of eco-friendly products from Lantana, an invasive species.
FRI Director Dr Renu Singh inaugurated the training programme and emphasised the vital role of state forest departments in eradicating Lantana from forests and agricultural lands. She urged participants to apply their learning in collaboration with state departments and promote Lantana-based products. Dr Renu Singh also stressed the importance of both online and offline marketing strategies for these innovative products.
Participants from various NGOs across India are taking part in this programme, with the aim of building their capacities and understanding sustainable practices that can benefit both the environment and local communities.
The event is being attended by Dr DP Khali, Head Forest Products Division, Dr PK Gupta, Officer In-Charge, Cellulose and Paper Discipline, Dr Vikas Rana and other scientists and technical staff from the Forest Products Division.
