It is worth noting that the university had earlier issued a separate notification inviting applications from candidates under the exempted category. Through the present notification, the process has now been opened for other candidates, particularly those applying through the entrance examination. The university has clarified that candidates who have already applied under the previous notification are not required to apply again.
As per the Information Brochure issued by the university, PhD programmes will be offered across a wide range of disciplines including Science, Life Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Agriculture and Allied Sciences, Arts, Languages and Communication, Humanities and Social Sciences, Commerce, Management, Education, and Law.
Regarding eligibility, candidates must possess a Master’s degree with a minimum of 55% marks, while a relaxation of 5% marks will be provided to reserved category candidates as per rules. The admission process will be based on a combination of entrance examination and interview. However, candidates who have qualified national-level examinations such as UGC-NET, CSIR-NET, GATE, CEED, ICAR, DST Inspire, etc., are exempted from the entrance test but must apply online within the stipulated time.
The entrance examination will consist of 100 multiple-choice questions, with 50 questions from the concerned subject and 50 questions from Research Methodology. The duration of the examination will be two hours. The minimum qualifying marks are 50% for General category and 45% for reserved categories. Qualified candidates will be called for an interview, at which their research proposal and academic competence will be assessed. The application fee has been fixed at Rs 700 for General/OBC/EWS candidates and Rs 350 for SC/ST/PwBD candidates. For the entrance examination, four cities Srinagar (Garhwal), Tehri Garhwal, Dehradun, and Delhi have been designated as examination centres, and candidates will be allotted centres based on their preferences. The university has also stated that it reserves the right to cancel any examination centre if a sufficient number of applications is not received, and in such cases, candidates may be allotted an alternative centre.
The university administration has advised applicants to carefully read the Information Brochure before applying and to regularly visit the official website for updates. It has also clarified that merely qualifying in the entrance examination does not guarantee admission, as final selection will depend on seat availability and fulfillment of other prescribed conditions.
Through these phased notifications, the university aims to ensure a systematic and transparent admission process, providing equal opportunities to all eligible candidates.
