Dehradun, 14 Jan: Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) y held a video conference today with Secretary, Disaster Management, Dr Ranjit Sinha, Commissioner, Garhwal, Sushil Kumar and DM, Chamoli, Himanshu Khurana on the ongoing Joshimath situation.
During the conference, the Governor sought updated details from officials regarding subsidence in Joshimath. Commissioner Sushil Kumar, District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana, SP Pramendra Dobal were also present in this video conferencing.
The Governor said that, in this hour of calamity, the entire country and the state were one with the affected people. He said that, at the time of this challenge, one would have to listen to the problems of each affected person and help in every possible way. He asked the officers to pay special attention to the basic needs of the affected. The Governor added that the safety of the citizens is the biggest responsibility for the administration and all arrangements ought to be ensured for their safety. He said that, apart from encouraging the affected, it is very important to stand with them emotionally as well. The Governor said that, in view of the Himalayan region, this disaster is a challenge and its solution the topmost priority of the government. During this, the Governor also inquired about the immediate and long term steps being taken to solve the problem.
On this occasion, Secretary to the Governor, Dr Ranjit Kumar Sinha, who is also the Secretary, Disaster Management, provided detailed information about the efforts being made at the government level.
The officials provided detailed information to the Governor regarding the situation. They also briefed the Governor on the relief and rescue measures like interim shelter, food and lodging arrangements, and interim rehabilitation of the affected families and other assistance being provided to them.
