Dehradun, 16 Dec: On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation by offering a floral wreath at the Shaurya Sthal, Dehradun. He expressed his heartfelt condolences and said that Vijay Diwas is a unique example of the valour of the Indian Armed Forces.
The Governor further stated that 16 December 1971 was a glorious moment in India’s history when the brave soldiers wrote a new saga with their courage and sacrifice. Within just 13 days, the victory campaign forced 93,000 Pakistani soldiers to surrender, leading to the division of Pakistan into two. He added that the bravery of these warriors would continue to inspire generations of Indians for years to come.
Lt Gen Singh emphasised that the extraordinary bravery displayed by the armed forces during this victory is fondly remembered by the nation, and it is essential for every citizen to know the stories of their unparalleled courage and sacrifice.
The Governor also interacted with military officials and veterans present at the Shaurya Sthal, wishing them a happy Vijay Diwas. Major General R Prem Raj, GOC Sub-Area, along with veterans, serving officers of Dehradun Station, JCOs, and other rank officers, were also present on this occasion.
