Dehradun, 6 Aug: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) on Wednesday reviewed the ongoing relief and rescue operations related to the Uttarkashi disaster at the Raj Bhavan, here, and obtained the latest updates from senior officials of the administration, police, army, and ITBP.
The Governor stated that search, relief, and rescue operations are the highest priority at this time, and there will be no shortage of resources for these efforts. He directed that the required machinery and equipment be assessed and mobilised immediately. The Governor also mentioned that the Government of India stands fully prepared to extend all possible support during this calamity.
Principal Secretary RK Sudhanshu informed him that necessary resources and teams for relief and rescue operations have been swiftly coordinated and mobilised. He highlighted that inclement weather is posing a major challenge to the ongoing operations. Currently, personnel from the Army, ITBP, BRO, SDRF, and local police are actively engaged in relief and rescue efforts on the ground.
Director General, Police, Deepam Seth stated that over 300 police personnel, including senior IPS officers, have been dispatched to the affected area. GOC, Sub Area, Major General MPS Gill stated that the Army’s helipad near Harsil is safe and will be utilised to accelerate search and rescue missions as soon as weather conditions permit.
Secretary, Disaster Management and Rehabilitation, Vinod Kumar Suman provided a detailed briefing on the relief and rescue measures undertaken so far. Also present during the meeting were ADG AP Anshuman, Home Secretary Shailesh Bagoli, and DIG, ITBP, Barinderjit Singh.
