DEHRADUN, 22 Mar: Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) participated as the Chief Guest in the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the 14 Dogra Battalion on Saturday.
On this occasion, the Governor paid tribute to the martyrs of the battalion. This historic event was attended by 80 retired officers, 350 retired Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), and 500 other retired personnel of the 14 Dogra Battalion. The event was also graced by Lt Gen Arvind Datta (Retd), Lt Gen Jasbir Singh (Retd), Lt Gen MS Dadwal (Retd), Maj Gen Sanjay Hooda, and Subedar Major & Honorary Captain Manohar Lal (Retd).

Addressing the soldiers, the Governor praised the commitment, selfless dedication, and service of active-duty personnel while also appreciating the contributions of the veterans. He noted that the battalion, currently stationed in Dehradun for the second time, has served in Uttarakhand on three occasions, including its participation in the flood relief operation ‘Operation Rahat’ in Nainital district in October 2021.
Lt Gen Gurmit Singh highlighted that the 14 Dogra Battalion symbolizes the great tradition of the Indian Army, demonstrating unwavering dedication to national service and homeland security. The battalion has not only been vigilant in safeguarding the borders but has also played a crucial role in counter-terrorism operations and national disaster relief efforts. He remarked that even after completing 75 years, the 14 Dogra Battalion continues to excel in its service to the nation with outstanding commitment and selflessness.
Praising the battalion’s exceptional military history, the Governor stated that the tales of valor and sacrifice of the Dogra Battalion are immortalized in the golden history of the Indian Army. He also acknowledged the battalion’s achievements in sports and adventure activities, which have further elevated the pride of the armed forces.
During the ceremony, the Governor unveiled the 14 Dogra Battalion Special Day Cover issued by the Army Postal Service Corps and presented a commemorative memento to the battalion. Colonel Mayank Mathur, the Commanding Officer, also presented a memento of the 14 Dogra Battalion to the Governor as a mark of honor.
