DEHRADUN, 1 Aug: Uttarakhand Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) on Saturday met Director General of Police Deepam Seth at Lok Bhavan and reviewed the State’s law and order situation, preparations for the Kanwar Yatra, the ongoing monsoon season, disaster management, and other current issues.
Lt Gen Singh emphasized that ensuring the safety of Kanwar pilgrims, smooth traffic movement, and the uninterrupted conduct of the pilgrimage should remain the highest priority. He appreciated the coordinated efforts of the police and civil administration in ensuring a safe, well-organized, and peaceful Kanwar Yatra.
Reviewing the State’s preparedness for the monsoon season, the Governor stressed the need for constant monitoring of vulnerable areas, swift relief and rescue operations during emergencies, and effective coordination among all concerned departments. He also discussed the welfare of retired police personnel, seeking updates on measures related to their healthcare, rehabilitation, social security, and the implementation of welfare schemes. He said that police personnel who have dedicated their lives to serving the state and society deserve continued respect and support after retirement.
DGP Deepam Seth informed the Governor that the Kanwar Yatra, which began on July 30, will continue until August 11. He said the entire Kanwar Mela area has been divided into 22 super zones, 67 zones, and 200 sectors for effective security management. Compared to last year, 110 additional duty points have been established. More than 11,000 police and security personnel have been deployed, while 420 CCTV cameras are being used for continuous surveillance.
Seth also said that Uttarakhand police has put in place comprehensive security and monitoring arrangements for the monsoon season and disaster management. Continuous monitoring of pilgrimage routes, regular assessment of weather and road conditions, inter-agency coordination, and readiness for immediate relief and rescue operations have been ensured.
