Dehradun, 2 Apr: Science laboratories in MB Government PG College, Haldwani, and Government PG College, Kotdwar, operating under the Higher Education Department, will be upgraded into hi-tech facilities. A total amount of Rs 4 crore has been released for the upgrade of laboratories in these two institutions.
The laboratories will be modernised with the support of IIT Kanpur to provide students with advanced experimental and research-based training using modern equipment.
State Higher Education Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat, in a statement to the media, said that the government is continuously promoting academic quality, innovation, and experimental and research activities in higher education. As part of this initiative, laboratories in government colleges across the state will be upgraded and transformed into hi-tech facilities, enabling students to gain practical training aligned with global standards.
Dr Rawat stated that, in the first phase, Rs 2 crore each has been released for the upgradation of science laboratories at MB Government PG College, Haldwani, and Government PG College, Kotdwar. The upgradation work will be carried out soon with the assistance of IIT Kanpur, and departmental officials have been directed to ensure timely completion.
He further stated that with support from premier institutions such as IIT Kanpur, IISc Bengaluru, and IISER Mohali, basic science labs, tinkering labs, and application labs will be developed in government colleges. Additionally, students will be provided hands-on training and practical exposure through lab work.
Dr Rawat added that, along with infrastructure development, teachers are also being trained to create a comprehensive ecosystem in colleges, with the aim of establishing the state as a model in the field of higher education.
