Almora, 22 Mar: BJP candidate for the Almora-Pithoragarh (SC Reserved) Lok Sabha seat, Ajay Tamta filed his nomination here, today, in the presence of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Tamta is a two-time MP from this seat. During the years 2014-19 he was also a Union Minister of State under Prime Minister Modi. He was not repeated as a minister by Modi in 2019 despite winning the seat comfortably.

Earlier, before filing his nomination, he also held a road show and rally along with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Dhami arrived in Almora on a short visit. On reaching here, the workers welcomed him with flower garlands and drums.

Addressing the rally, the CM said that PM Narendra Modi has special attachment to Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. This is the reason why, as Prime Minister, Modi reached Gunji of Pithoragarh, Adi Kailash, Jageshwar of Almora for the first time. Dhami also claimed that tourist business in this region has gained momentum due to PM Modi’s visit.

Dhami claimed that the opposition is not only indulging in vote bank politics but is also actively promoting dynastic and caste politics in the country and in the state. Under the leadership of the Prime Minister, the country has become the fifth largest economy in the world. It is certain that the country will become the third economy during Modi’s third term as PM. This, he claimed was the reason why so many opposition leaders in the country are joining the BJP, impressed by the development work. He also asserted that all the Opposition parties have tried to form a Grand Alliance against BJP but they are still unable to find a suitable face to project as a Prime Ministerial candidate.

Dhami said that, in Uttarakhand, leaders and workers of other parties have joined BJP in large numbers. The situation is such that due to the large number of workers joining the party from outside, the state president has had to put brakes on the membership campaign. He said that all the workers together will have to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Modi by making the sitting MP Ajay Tamta victorious again from Almora Lok Sabha seat with a huge margin. Many leaders and workers including State President Mahendra Bhatt, Cabinet Ministers Rekha Arya and Saurabh Bahuguna participated in the public meeting.

Dhami said that, recently, the BJP Government in the state has worked to provide equal rights to women by implementing the Uniform Civil Code. Just as the Ganga originates from Uttarakhand and provides water and life to the entire country, similarly the UCC will show the way to other states of the country.
