DEHRADUN, 13 Dec: Specialists at Graphic Era Hospital have set a record by successfully treating 50 cases of food pipe blockage without surgery. This achievement has been accomplished by the expert team under the leadership of doctor and Head of Gastroenterology, Sachin Dev Munjal.
This procedure, known as POEMS, is a modern endoscopic technique used to treat achalasia cardia and other disorders of the food pipe. Compared to conventional surgery, it is a scar-free, minimally painful procedure performed through the mouth with the help of an endoscope. As a result, patients recover faster, and their swallowing ability and overall quality of life improve significantly.
Sachin said that POEMS focuses not only on relieving symptoms but also on correcting the underlying functional problem. With this technique, patients are able to return to normal eating habits and daily life much sooner. Under his leadership, the Gastroenterology Department at Graphic Era Hospital has become one of the prime centers in North India where this procedure is performed regularly with a high success rate.
