Dehradun, 22 Apr: Students of Graphic Era will now make people aware about increasing antibiotic resistance in disease causing micro-organisms. For this, an expert talk was organised in Graphic Era Deemed University on Saturday. Students who participated in the programme, will now spread the message further.
The talk was organised by the Uttarakhand chapter of the Indian Microbiologists Society. National President of the society, Dr AM Deshmukh explained to the participants the entire process of antibiotic resistance in disease causing micro-organisms. He said that the problem is increasing and claimed that most of the disease causing microorganism will be fully antibiotic resistant in around five years. This, due to prolonged exposure to such medicines. In such situation, he added that antibiotic medicines will cease to have any effect in these microorganisms. The only way to evade the situation is to develop new anti-biotic variants and therefore it calls for more research in the area. He said that people should start consuming more natural sources of food and edibles with single cell proteins. People should get vaccinated and also take alternative medications in case of life threatening problems.
The Uttarakhand chapter of the Indian Microbiologists Society is based in Graphic Era Deemed University. Students from Biotechnology, Microbiology, Physiotherapy, Medical Microbiology, Nursing and other departments of the university are its members. Head, Department of Biotechnology, Dr Naveen Kumar, teachers and students remained present in the programme, which was coordinated by Dr Nishant Rai.
