Dehradun, 1 May: Gujarat and Maharashtra State Foundation Days were celebrated on Thursday at the Raj Bhavan Auditorium, here. Under the theme “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat”, the event at Raj Bhavan witnessed Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) extending heartfelt greetings on behalf of the people of Uttarakhand to the residents of Gujarat and Maharashtra. On this occasion, folk songs, dances, and various cultural performances were presented by members of both states.
In his address, the Governor stated that both Gujarat and Maharashtra have a glorious history, and their rich culture and vibrant traditions are an integral part of the nation. He remarked that Gujarat, known for its industrious people, has left a distinct mark through holistic development and unique cultural heritage, while Maharashtra has long been the hub of industrial progress in modern India. He also highlighted the significant role these states played in the freedom movement and their continued contribution to the nation’s development.

Lt Gen Singh noted that this celebration is not merely a commemoration of the formation of two states but a vibrant expression of India’s diversity, harmony, and federal structure. He called for strengthening the spirit of federal unity and cultural diversity that binds the nation together.

The Governor emphasised the invaluable role of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in national integration. He referred to Sardar Patel as the architect who united hundreds of princely states into a single nation post-independence, stating that Patel was not just the “Iron Man of India” but also a guardian of the nation’s soul.
The Governor remarked that as India advances swiftly towards the goal of Developed India 2047, every citizen must commit themselves to the spirit of Nation First and actively participate in nation-building. He reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mantra of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas”, underlining that national progress is only possible through collective effort. He also praised the social contributions of the Gujarat Samaj Dehradun and Maharashtra Mandal Dehradun.
The event was graced by First Lady Gurmeet Kaur, Additional Secretary to the Governor Swati S Bhadauria, Finance Controller Dr Tripti Srivastava, Dr MN Jha, Mihir Rajguru, Ravindra Mehra, Vasudha Verma, Dr NR Patel, Dr Nishi Bhatt, and other distinguished guests.
