HC orders removal of VC of Ayurveda Varsity

Nainital, 6 Jul: The Nainital High Court has directed the government to immediately remove Dr Sunil Kumar Joshi from the post of Vice Chancellor of Uttarakhand Ayurveda University. It may be recalled that the petitioners had challenged the appointment of Dr Sunil Kumar Joshi as the Vice Chancellor of Uttarakhand Ayurveda University claiming that the appointment had been made against the rules. It may be further recalled that the division bench of Uttarakhand High Court led by Chief Justice Vipin Sanghi, and also comprising of Justice Rakesh Thapliyal had been hearing this case and the hearing was completed on 15 June itself.
The petition challenging the appointment of Dr Sunil Kumar Joshi had been filed in the High Court by Haridwar resident, Vinod Kumar Chauhan, who had claimed that the appointment was made in violation of the prescribed UGC rules. The petition further claimed that Dr Sunil Joshi did not have requisite qualifications for the post of Vice  Chancellor. The petition further claimed that after his appointment, Dr Joshi had also indulged in several financial irregularities and had also promoted several faculty members in violation of the prescribed rules. The case was heard last on 15 June and  the judgement was reserved. Today, the division bench announced its judgement holding that the appointment of Dr Sunil Kumar Joshi as the Vice Chancellor was illegal and done in irregular manner, and the bench directed the government to immediately remove Dr Joshi from the post of Vice Chancellor.
