Pauri Garhwal, 18 Aug:  Continuous heavy rainfall in the hills of Uttarakhand has led to landslides and severe disruption of life across the state. A major incident has been reported today from Mahar Gaon in Pauri district where a two‑storey house collapsed early this morning. Four members of a family were trapped under the debris. Local villagers managed to rescue a woman safely, while three others, including a two‑year‑old child, remain missing. Rescue teams comprising the administration, SDRF and police personnel are engaged in intensive search and relief operations at the site.

The incident occurred around 7:45 a.m. this morning when torrential rain caused the structure to give way. Ambulances and medical teams were rushed to the spot, and the injured woman was immediately taken to Satpuli Hans Hospital for treatment. SDRF, patwari and police teams are continuing the rescue effort under challenging conditions.

District Magistrate Swati Bhadauria reached the disaster control room to review the situation and she directed the officials to restore affected roads and essential services. It has been informed that the Satpuli–Gumkhal road has been reopened with the help of JCB machines, while work is underway to clear the Gumkhal–Dwarikhal–Mahar Gaon route. The administration has also reviewed electricity, drinking water and road connectivity, instructing departments to respond promptly to breakdowns and ensure supply restoration.

The authorities have intensified monitoring in sensitive areas and appealed to residents to avoid riverbanks and streams as water levels may rise further due to persistent rainfall.
