Rudrapur, 25 Nov: A Hindu man from Rudrapur, Udham Singh Nagar, has filed a complaint against his wife and her lover of forcing their son to convert to Islam. The complainant has alleged that his wife converted their son’s religion and forced him to undergo Khatna procedure and that she has also absconded with cash, documents, and jewellery.

Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case under the Uttarakhand Religious Freedom Act 2018 and the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita 2023. The complainant, a Hindu and a native of Uttar Pradesh, has also accused his wife’s lover of threatening to kill him. He stated that he had entered into a marriage with his wife, belonging to a different religious community. However, after some time, she started pressurising him to convert to her religion. Despite initial refusal, the victim eventually agreed under duress. However, when his wife imposed further conditions, he refused to comply.

Subsequently, the wife allegedly took their son and began living with her lover, Nizamuddin. During this period, she is accused of converting their son’s religion without the victim’s consent. However, after a week, she returned home, apologised to him claiming that she had ended her relationship with Nizamuddin.

The victim further alleged that his wife convinced him to sell his ancestral land to build a house in Rudrapur. She then allegedly stole approximately Rs 70,000, along with other valuable documents and jewellery, while he was away for work and ran away once again.

Following the complaint, the police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. SP City Manoj Katyal confirmed the registration of a case under Sections 3 and 5 of the Uttarakhand Religious Freedom Act 2018 and Section 351(2) of the BNS. The accused wife has been arrested, while efforts are underway to apprehend her lover, Nizamuddin, who is stated to be absconding.
