‘ICAMEES – 2018’ concludes successfully at UPES

DEHRADUN, 16 Dec: The Bidholi Campus of UPES was abuzz with the presence of renowned experts from academia, industry, etc., who had gathered there to participate in the two-day long ‘International Conference on Advanced Materials, Energy & Environmental Sustainability: ICAMEES -2018”, which concluded successfully on 15 December. The event organised jointly by the ‘Department of Chemistry’ & ‘Department of Physics’ of the School of Engineering (SoE), UPES, was sponsored by SERB-India, CSIR-India, USERC & Namami Gange.
Prof Prashant V Kamat – John A Zahm Professor of Science, University of Notre Dame, and also the Editor-in-Chief ACS Energy Letters, inaugurated the conference as the ‘Chief Guest’ in the presence of ‘Guest of Honour’ Prof Rajendra Dobhal (Director General, Uttarakhand State Council for Science & Technology); Dr SJ Chopra, Chancellor, UPES; Dr Deependra Jha, Vice Chancellor, UPES; Prof Sanjeev Kumar, Associate Dean (Applied Science & Humanities, UPES) and other guests.
Briefing the media, Arun Dhand, Sr Director, Public Affairs, stated that the entire two-day long conference was a thought-provoking venture aimed at sustainable research with beneficial outcomes for future generations. Conference Convener Dr Shailey Singhal disclosed that over 300 participants attended the conference, which comprised of international participation from 18 countries. It included 4 Plenary Talks and 120 Oral/Invited Talks and over 100 Poster Presentations. Delivering their plenary talks, Prof PV Kamat shared his insights on the next generation Photovoltaics with Semiconductor Nano Structures, while Prof Wolfgang H Binder, Research Director, Martin Luther University, Germany, emphasised on chemical designing of self-healing materials. The plenary talks were preceded by six sessions of ‘Invited & Oral Talks’ by the researchers from foreign universities, IITs, CSIR Labs and Central/State Universities on the inaugural day.
In the two plenary talks on the second day of the conference, Prof Katsuaki Suganuma of Osaka University, Japan, emphasised on the synthesis of Silver Nano/Sub-micron Materials and their applications for energy conversion devices, while Prof Rajeev Ahuja, the internationally acclaimed Professor of Material Theory at the Department of Physics & Astronomy from the Uppsala University, Sweden, also shared his expert knowledge among the participants. The Invited & Oral Talk sessions by National & International experts laid stress on advanced materials, energy harvesting sources, energy storage, environmental sustainability and green technology.
At the ‘Valedictory Session’, Prabhat Raj – Technical Advisor, Namami Gange, enlightened the gathering about the twin objectives of effective abatement of pollution, conservation and rejuvenation of the Ganga. He also administered an oath to the participants to keep the river clean. Prof Sanjeev Kumar invited Prabhat Raj to present the ‘Best Talk’ and ‘Poster Presentation’ Awards amongst the participants.
