Dehradun, 22 May: The government has assigned different responsibilities to various senior officers on better management of the Char Dham Yatra. In this regard, IG Police Arun Mohan Joshi has been assigned the responsibility of overseeing the crowd and travel arrangements along the Gangotri and Yamunotri routes and at the Gangotri and the Yamunotri Dhams. His responsibilities will include tackling the problem of traffic jams and parking of the vehicles, too. This responsibility has been given to him in view of his past experience in managing several religious fairs like Kumbh Mela and Kanwar Yatra and Ganga Snans on various occasions.
Joshi has submitted the report to the government after conducting a two day tour of Gangotri and Yamunotri. In this report he has made several suggestions on improving the crowd management at these shrines and along the route. He also suggested a quota system for the movement of horses and mules as well as dandi-kandi on the trek routes. He has also suggested some parking sites between Uttarkashi and Gangotri and Uttarkashi to Yamunotri and some halting points along the routes. During his two-day tour, Joshi also spoke with the pilgrims and sought their suggestions. Sources in the state police claimed that the suggestions made by Joshi will be implemented at the earliest in order to ensure better traffic management for Yatra to Gangotri and Yamunotri.
