Kashipur, 4 Jun: The Uttarakhand government’s intensified action against illegal religious structures has led to the self-demolition of an unauthorised mazaar built on Irrigation Department land in Kashipur in district Udham Singh Nagar. The caretaker of the illegal mazaar removed the debris himself after receiving a notice from authorities and has taken away the building material used for construction of the illegal structure.
The mazaar, reportedly constructed a few years ago, was identified as an encroachment by the Irrigation Department and the municipal administration. SDM Abhay Singh confirmed that the structure had no mention in government records and was blocking a public thoroughfare. A 15-day notice was issued for its removal.
Kashipur Mayor Deepak Bali welcomed the self-demolition, reiterating that illegal constructions will not be tolerated. He praised the initiative of voluntary removal, stating it was a positive step towards maintaining Kashipur as a “Sanatan Nagari”.
It may be recalled that the Pushkar Singh Dhami government has been conducting a special demolition drive against illegal mazaars and madrasas across Uttarakhand. It may also be reminded here that over 300 illegal mazaars have been razed in recent months, particularly in forest areas and government land. Additionally, multiple unauthorised madrasas have been sealed across the state.
