Dehradun, 9 Sep: Uttarakhand Congress senior vice-president and party spokesperson Dhirendra Pratap today claimed that the anguish expressed by Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge over the Haldwani untouchability incident will prove disastrous for the BJP government. In a statement issued today, Pratap claimed that the FIR registered on the appeal of a local lawyer was a mere formality and would not have been possible without Congress’s satyagraha.
Pratap stated that the public humiliation of the veteran Congress president and the silence of the Prime Minister and Home Minister after such a grave incident marked a dark chapter in India’s history. He added that had former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee been in office, the FIR would have been registered immediately and the culprits would already have been behind bars.
Pratap also criticised the attitude of the Prime Minister and Home Minister as shameful and demanded that the Prime Minister apologise to the nation. He emphasised that the matter is far from over and remains before the people’s court, with strong reactions witnessed both nationally and within the state. Pratap asserted that there is no doubt this incident will drive a nail into the BJP’s coffin in the 2027 Uttarakhand Assembly elections.
