DEHRADUN, 17 Feb: The outgoing Governor of Maharashtra, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, reached Dehradun today after relinquishing office at the Raj Bhawan in Mumbai. BJP workers warmly welcomed him at Jolly Grant Airport here this evening.

It may be recalled that Koshyari lives in rented accommodation in Defence Colony, here.

It may be recalled further that Koshyari, who was in the thick of some controversies over certain of his statements in Maharashtra, had all of a sudden expressed the desire to step down from the office of Governor of Maharashtra, a position which he had held for the past 3 years. He had urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to relieve him at the earliest, so that he could devote time to reading and writing. His resignation was finally accepted on 12 February by the Centre. He was given a warm send off at the Maharashtra Raj Bhawan by the officials there.

Koshyari has been replaced by Ramesh Bais, who will take oath as the new Governor of Maharashtra tomorrow. Bais will be administered oath of office by Acting Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Sanjay Gangapurwala.

The arrival of Koshyari in Doon accompanies a lot of speculation over whether he will remain politically secluded or become a political power centre in Uttarakhand.
