Dehradun, 22 Apr: The frequency of road accidents in Dehradun continues to rise, with Kuthal Gate emerging as one of the most perilous spots for vehicles descending from Mussoorie. High-speed traffic from the hills has not only resulted in frequent accidents but also claimed numerous lives. To prevent accidents in the area, the district administration has initiated a comprehensive transformation of Kuthal Gate, aiming to reduce accidents and improve the overall travel experience. By the end of the monsoon season, tourists heading to Mussoorie will witness a vastly altered route.

Traffic congestion and daily accidents between Dehradun and Mussoorie have necessitated urgent intervention. Following an extensive study, the district administration has embarked on an ambitious project to redesign the Mussoorie Road. The facelift of Kuthal Gate, situated between Haridwar and Dehradun, will include artistic enhancements on walls and squares. District Magistrate (DM) Savin Bansal has instructed officials to complete the makeover within the set timeframe immediately after the monsoon.

Under Project Kuthal Gate, primary focus is being placed on the construction of a new slip road and the display of mountain culture. A side motorable slip road has already been developed, and efforts are underway to revamp Kuthal Gate in a grand, traditional style.

The DM today shared that tourists travelling to Mussoorie will soon experience a revamped transit route, offering improved facilities and smoother connectivity. With ongoing beautification and road expansion, the project is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and significantly reduce accidents. Officials have been directed to adhere to the stipulated deadline and ensure timely completion of the construction work.

Aligned with the Chief Minister’s vision of development integrated with cultural promotion, the district administration is actively engaged in improving public spaces, including crossings and drainage systems. Expansion and modernisation efforts, including enhancements at Kuthal Gate and other intersections, are being carried out on a war footing under the District Magistrate’s direct supervision.

The administration’s focus on Project Kuthal Gate extends beyond road safety and also incorporates initiatives that preserve heritage and mountain traditions. After thorough assessments, the DM has overseen the development of additional motorable slip roads, ensuring seamless traffic movement. The beautification efforts will offer visitors an enriched experience, showcasing Uttarakhand’s folk traditions and scenic hill aesthetics.

With strict instructions for contractors and officials to accelerate progress, manpower and resources have been doubled to meet the pre-monsoon deadline. Bansal has consistently monitored the site, reinforcing his commitment to merging public safety, improved traffic flow, and cultural preservation into a singular vision. Once completed, the transformation of Kuthal Gate is expected to be one of the significant milestones along Dehradun-Mussorie route.
