Dehradun, 20 May: Doon Book Club and The Literary Table celebrated the launch of Moin Mir’s latest book, The Monastery of Solitude at the elegant auditorium in Antara last evening. It was a mesmerizing session with the author moderated by Aloka Niyogi and Bijoya Sawian. The occasion was graced by celebrated author Nayantara Sahgal, the Founder and Chairman of Roli Books, Pramod Kapoor and his family who are also the publishers, educators Sumali Devgan and RP Devgan and CEO of Raphael, Priyo Lall and the eminent citizens of the Doon Valley, Harjit Lally, Neelam Misal, Dr Mukesh Dhanda among others.
The session commenced with a warm, well-worded Welcome Speech by Malika Roy after which Moin Mir showed stunning slides of his journey from Rome to Delhi via Turkey. It was the journey of the famous Greek philosopher, Plotinus wanted to undertake 1780 years ago to come and study the Upanishads but failed. Moin Mir succeeded. This exquisite literary achievement is about the journey, his outer and inner journey to India as a natural student of philosophy, a seeker and the concept of Oneness that pervades the entire universe.
Moin Mir is a UK based author. He has published an English translation of Mirza Ghalib and has done extensive research of Sufism and its spiritual connection with the essence of all faiths.
His other two best sellers are The Fragrance of Infinity and Surat-The Fall of A Port, The Rise of A Prince.
He is a member of the nawab family of Surat and is next in line to succeed the Darbar of Kamandiyah in Gujarat.
It was memorable event commendably organised by the main members of the two book clubs Nita Roy, Aloka Niyogi, Shalini Dhanda and Geetika Kakkar.
