Mussoorie, 18 Mar: The 26th Annual District Convention of Lions Club 321-C-1 was held in Mussoorie. A parade was organised from the SBI to Picture Palace Chowk by various lions club branches in which members were dressed in the tricolours, while some were dressed as soldiers.
Slogans such as Bharat Mata Ki Jai, Vande Mataram, etc., were also raised by the members along with tourists and locals of the town. On the occasion, the election of the District Lions Club was also held in which Sanjiva Aggarwal was unanimously nominated District Governor and Ashwani Kamboj, First Vice District Governor. An election was held for the second vice district governor’s post, for which a total of 329 votes were cast, in which Gaurav Garg received 316 votes and Rajiv Gupta got 13 votes. After the victory, Gaurav Garg thanked all the voters and assured every member that he would try to fulfill the expectations of the members.
Vinay Mittal, District Governor of Lions Club, said that the District Convention is organised every year in which members and office bearers from different areas of the club participate. He said as this year the theme of the convention was patriotism and it was devoted to the martyrs of the Pulwama terrorist attack. Tribute was also paid to the martyrs by lighting candles. He said the Lions Club was the largest service institution of the International World, which involved selfless service of the needy people by about 14.5 lakh members in 210 countries, who contributed money and time. The institution has created history in the field of human service by completing 100 years.
He added that several other public interest programmes were organised by the club, including Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao, Sanitation Campaign, Health Campaign, Ambulance Arrangement, and Training for Employment. He said that the Club was continuously working in the rural areas to make villagers aware about health and hygiene.
