Dehradun, 21 Oct: Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee President Karan Mahara, has criticised the statement issued by BJP State President Mahendra Bhatt who had alleged that veteran Congress leader Harish Rawat was taking out a Kissan Yatra solely to save his declining political career.
Karan Mahara claimed that Bhatt and other BJP leaders are truly upset with the support that Congress is receiving from the farmers of the country and the state. Mahara claimed that the Congress is rapidly gaining trust of the farmers of the country and therefore the BJP leaders are retorting to unrestrained allegations against Congress leaders.
Mahara said that Mahendra Bhatt is losing his mental balance due to which he is continuously making unrestrained and absurd statements. He said that in the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP had grabbed power by luring the people of the country with the promise of good days and making false promises to the farmers. But even after 10 years have passed, not a single promise made to the people of the country has been fulfilled. The antifarmer face of the BJP‘s double engine government was revealed to the public on the same day when the Modi government brought three antifarmer black laws on the strength of numbers to benefit its friends and capitalists. It was only after 13 months of farmers’ agitation and opposition parties that the government had to step back. He said that this government is continuously giving false assurances to the farmers and suppressing them. Rising inflation, rising prices of fertiliser, seeds and diesel and GST on farming equipment have come as a double blow to the farmers. The farmers of the country have been demanding adequate increase in the minimum support price for their crops and the government has always ignored the demands of the farmers and whatever work has been done by the government is just like a drop of cum in the camel’s mouth.
State Congress President Karan Mahara said that the farmers of Uttarakhand are continuously struggling due to the natural disasters like landslides and excessive rainfall, on the other hand, but the state government is not helping them. The farmers are being forced to sell their produce at throwaway prices to the middle men. It may be recalled that Mahara had recently written a letter to the Chief Minister of the state Pushkar Singh Dhami, informing him about the problems of the farmers and also claimed that there were irregularities in weighing of paddy in the agricultural markets and the moisture checking by the local brokers.
