Maharaj conducts on-site inspection of disaster-affected works

Dehradun, 18 Sep: Public Works and Irrigation Minister, Satpal Maharaj on Thursday continued his second day of on-site inspection of areas in Dehradun district affected by heavy rainfall, landslides, and cloudbursts. He reviewed the damage caused to roads and bridges and issued necessary directions to officials regarding ongoing repair works.

During the inspection, Maharaj visited National Highway-07, Uttarakhand University, the damaged canal of the Irrigation Department near Jhajhra Bridge, and the Kimadi–Mussoorie Road at Gajiawala.

At Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple, the Minister assessed the damage caused by the recent natural calamity and instructed officials to explore the feasibility of constructing folding bridges over the Tamsa River to facilitate movement of devotees to the temples located on both sides before the upcoming Navratri festival.

He further stated that, out of the 8 damaged bridges, 5 have already been permanently restored and opened for traffic. In addition, a Bailey Bridge has been constructed near Shiv Mandir on the Dehradun–Mussoorie road, making the route operational again.

Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department, Shri Rajesh Kumar Sharma, along with several officials from the PWD and Irrigation Department, were present during the inspection.
