DEHRADUN, 1 April: A 23 year old man from Muzaffarnagar district in Uttar Pradesh was on Monday sent to judicial remand after he killed his livein partner in Dehradun suspecting her character and later threw her body in nearby jungles, police said on Monday.
The police claimed that the case was solved more than three months after the mother of Shahnoor (24) filed a missing complaint with the police that she was not traceable since December 27, 2023.
On Saturday, police nabbed Rashid who admitted that he strangulated Shahnoor and later stuffed her body in a suitcase and threw it in the Asharori jungles near Dehradun on December 27. The decomposed body in the suitcase has been recovered and later sent for postmortem. The postmortem report is awaited, police said.
The couple was living in one-room accommodation in Sanskriti Vihar colony in Dehradun since September 2023.
Rashid, an automobile mechanic, told the police that he killed Shahnoor, who used to come home late in the night very often. On December 27, when Shanoor came late, Rashid entered into a heated argument with her and started abusing her. Amidst the heated arguments, Shahnoor allegedly slapped Rashid. In a fit of rage, Rashid strangulated Shanoor and later withdrew Rs 17000 from her bank account using her debit card.
He later purchased a red suitcase and stuffed the body inside. He later threw the body in the Asharori jungles.
SSP Dehradun Ajai Singh had called for swift police investigations immediately after Shahnoor’s mother Sharool Jahan, a native of Kankhal area in Haridwar district had filed a missing complaint. After killing Shahnoor, Rashid had fled to Panipat city in Haryana where he was working as a helper in a pickup van. Few days ago, Rashid came to Sanskirit Vihar colony to collect some documents but was nabbed by the alert policemen. On being rigorously interrogated, Rashid confessed his crime.
Rashid on Monday was sent to judicial remand.
