DEHRADUN, 6 Jan: The 3rd edition of Map Quiz 2018 Uttarakhand State Finals was held at the Survey of India Auditorium, here today. The Quiz aims to create awareness among students about maps/Geo-facts and their importance.
In the Sub Junior category, Tanmay Kumar & Aditya Rawat and, in the Junior category, Gaurav Purohit, Siddharth Shah, Krishnanshu Gupta, Aarav Deo of The Doon Global School; Raina & Anushka of The Alpine Public School and Nikhil Thapli & Dhruv Om Sharma of The Purukul Youth Development Society bagged the first position.
Keshav Aggarwal and Kartikay Gaur were first in the Senior Category.
The Chief Guests on the occasion was retired Indian Forest Service Officer STS Lepcha and Dr B Namchu. Other guests present on the occasion were Director MA & DC Lt Col Rakesh S Rana, Director, Northern Printing Group, Dheeraj Shah, Deputy Director, Surveyor General’s Office, Pankaj Mishra, Survey of India EM Ghildiyal and Deputy Surveyor Lt Col Pawan Kumar Pandey.
Over 350 students from all over Uttarakhand participated in the Map Quiz 2018.
The schools that participated in the Map Quiz 2018 were Purkal Youth Development Society, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Hathibarkala, Kendriya Vidyalaya, IMA, Him Jyoti, Tula’s International School, Doon Global School, Grace Academy, Doon Public Academy, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Salawala, Grace Academy, St Kabeer Academy, Alpine Public School, Renuka Public School and Himalayan School
Speaking on the occasion, the President of HimValley Social Foundation & Map Quiz 2018, Anita Nautiyal declared, “The Map Quiz is being organised for school students since 2016 by the Foundation. The quiz is organised as a part of the ‘GIS Day’ programme observed all over the world.”
The preliminaries of the Map Quiz took place between 16 and 30 November, in which over 200 students participated.
The Map Quiz 2018 is supported by Survey of India, Indian Space Research Organisation, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, T-Bistro, Lights & Shadows and Himalayan Geographers Society.
