Dehradun, 31 May: The Mussoorie Dehra- Development Authority (MDDA) has claimed that it will take some major steps to make Dehradun green again. Vice Chairman of the MDDA, Bansidhar Tiwari today held a meeting with a large number of builders from Dehradun to discuss how to make the city green again. It may be recalled that Dehradun was a city known for its litchi and mango orchards in the past. However, now it has turned into a concrete jungle and a large number of even the avenue trees have disappeared and this has had an adverse effect on the local weather.
Today, at the initiative of VC MDDA, a meeting was held with the builders of Dehradun in which a discussion was held on how the city can be made green. Tiwari urged the builders to run a campaign to plant trees on the roads of Dehradun so that the effort to make the roads green can be completed. Apart from this, the VC, MDDA, also instructed the builders to take measures to save water. Tiwari, asserted that the MDDA plans to plant at least 1 lakh trees on the roadsides in various areas of Dehradun. As part of this new initiative of the Vice President, builders agreed to adopt the major routes of the city before the Harela festival. The Authority will provide the builders with fruit plants as well as other plants and tree guards, the responsibility of maintaining which will be of the respective builders in future.
The Vice President said that it is the collective responsibility of all concerned to make the city green. Major builders were given the responsibility of plantation along various routes of the city. Mahalaxmi Builders has been given the responsibility from Jogiwala to Rispana Bridge, Kirti Agarwal has been given the responsibility of Nimbuwala Road, Rajesh Khanna has been given the responsibility of Purkul Road, Rajendra Agarwal has been given the responsibility of Dilaram Chowk to Governor’s House, the operators of Synergy Hospital have been given the responsibility of plantation from Ballupur Chowk to Cantt Police Station. Apart from this, the builders who could not attend today’s meeting will also be given the responsibility of other routes.
VC Tiwari said that MDDA will try its best to make Dehradun city green. Along with fruit trees, efforts will be made to plant shady trees on various roads of Dehradun.
