Mega Employment Fair held for Armed Forces veterans in Garhi Cantt

Dehradun, 13 Feb: The Directorate General of Resettlement (DGR), under the Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defence, organised a Mega Employment Fair for veterans of the Indian Armed Forces today at Garhi Cantt, Dehradun. The event aimed to provide a common platform for retired and retiring armed forces personnel and corporate organisations to connect and explore meaningful employment opportunities.

The event was attended by Ganesh Joshi, Minister, Sainik Welfare, Uttarakhand; Major General SBK Singh, Director General (Resettlement), and Gaurav Lamba, Director, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

In his address, Minister Joshi stated that all veterans present had devoted the prime years of their lives in service of the nation, and their experience, discipline, and dedication are invaluable assets to society and the corporate sector. Appreciating the initiative, he remarked that the Job Fair is a significant step toward providing veterans with opportunities for a second career, aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat”, “Make in India”, and self-reliance. He reaffirmed the Central Government’s unwavering commitment to the rehabilitation and bright future of ex-servicemen and expressed deep respect for their service and sacrifices.

The event was also attended by Brigadier Vinod Singh Negi, Commandant, Garhwal Rifles Regimental Centre; Brigadier Sudhir Malik, ADG, DGR (West), Chandimandir and Colonel Aditya Srivastava, Colonel Veteran, Headquarters UK Sub Area.

Major General SBK Singh, Director General (Resettlement), expressed gratitude to the Minister for his presence and motivating address. Welcoming Veer Naris, dependants, and participating companies, he emphasised that the courage, discipline, and leadership skills of veterans align closely with the needs of the industry. He reiterated DGR’s commitment to facilitating dignified second career opportunities for ex-servicemen of Uttarakhand within their home state. He encouraged veterans to take full advantage of the opportunities provided and urged industry representatives to actively embrace this experienced talent pool. He also conveyed appreciation to all partner organisations for their support.

The Job Fair witnessed enthusiastic participation from veterans across Uttarakhand. More than 1,250 ex-servicemen from the Army, Navy, and Air Force registered and actively participated in the event. A total of 43 leading national and multinational companies participated directly, offering more than 1,480 employment opportunities across diverse sectors.

The fair saw participation from reputed national and multinational corporate organisations as well as government agencies. Shortlisted veterans were screened and selected for a range of positions, including supervisory roles, technical support, junior to senior management, and administrative appointments.

Gaurav Lamba, Director, CII Uttarakhand, was the Corporate Guest of Honour.

Major recruiters at the event included Genus Power Infra Ltd., SIS, HDFC Life Insurance, ICICI Bank, Max Hospitals, Hawk Security Agency, among several other reputed organisations. Pramerica Life Insurance handed over job offer letters to two candidates selected during the recruitment process.

The Job Fair provided a valuable platform for Ex-Servicemen to showcase their technical, managerial, and administrative expertise, while enabling industry to access a disciplined, skilled, and experienced talent pool.

The event proved mutually beneficial for both the corporate sector and the veterans. While ex-servicemen were able to showcase their technical and administrative competencies, industry representatives gained access to a disciplined, trained, and experienced workforce.
