DEHRADUN, 3 Jan: Hamilton Housewares Private Limited, widely known as Milton, has been collaborating with the Waste Warriors Society for the past three years to enhance waste management systems in Dehradun and its surrounding regions. Under this partnership, Milton provides critical support to the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) operated by Waste Warriors, where waste collected from households and institutions is scientifically segregated and diverted for recycling.
Over the last three years, this project has successfully collected a total of 714.44 tonnes of waste, out of which 691.74 tonnes were channelled to authorised recycling units in and around Dehradun. This initiative has led to a significant reduction in the volume of waste reaching landfills, thereby contributing substantially to environmental conservation.
Beyond infrastructure and operational support, Milton has focused on empowering the frontline workforce, referred to as ‘Safaai Saathis’ or Green Workers. Recently, training sessions on basic literacy and financial literacy were organised at the Material Recovery Facility to foster self-reliance among these workers.
Currently, the project employs 12 Green Workers supported by a three-member team from Waste Warriors, all working with the assistance provided by Milton. This initiative not only protects the environment but also provides a dignified livelihood to local workers.
The sustained support extended by Milton to Waste Warriors reflects the company’s long-term commitment towards environmental protection, the circular economy, and inclusive development within Uttarakhand.
