Dehradun, 6 Aug: Soldiers’ Welfare Minister Ganesh Joshi handed over a cheque of Rs 50 lakh today to Balveer Singh Negi, father of the late UPNL employee Dhanveer Singh Negi, and his wife Mangita Negi, at the camp office in Dehradun. The cheque was provided as per the agreement between UPNL and Punjab National Bank, following the accidental death of Dhanveer Singh Negi, who was employed through UPNL in the Electricity Department.

During the programme, the Cabinet Minister and all present observed two minutes of silence to pay homage to those who lost their lives in the recent natural disaster at Dharali and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Minister Ganesh Joshi said that although no one can bring back a life once lost, financial assistance can help support the bereaved family. He informed that this is the first cheque of Rs 50 lakh provided by Punjab National Bank under the agreement, and earlier, UPNL had already given financial aid of Rs 1.5 lakh. Additionally, arrangements have been made to provide a monthly pension to the wife and children of the deceased through EPF. He further mentioned that correspondence is underway to provide approximately Rs 10 lakh more under workers’ compensation.

It is worth noting that Dhanveer Singh Negi had been serving as TG-2 in the Electricity Distribution Division, Barkot, Uttarkashi, through UPNL since 28 May 2015. On 17 April 2025, while restoring disrupted electricity supply in the area, he sustained injuries and was rushed to a hospital, but despite medical treatment could not be saved.
