Dehradun, 3 Jan: Everything from medals and trophies for athletes to stationery has been made from e-waste for the upcoming 38th National Games. On Friday, Sports Minister Rekha Arya inspected all these items and issued directions for improvements where necessary. Additionally, a review meeting was held with officials to assess the progress of the preparations for the National Games.

It is worth noting that the theme for the National Games being hosted in the state is ‘Green Games’, and efforts are being made to use recycled e-waste products throughout the event. Sports Minister Rekha Arya stated that all items given to athletes, including medals, trophies, mementos, shawls, caps, as well as items used during the games like cups, plates, utensils, and thermoses are made from e-waste. The invitation cards for the National Games have also been created using e-waste materials.

The Minister inspected the proposed models of these items today and issued instructions for improvements where required.

Prior to this, Minister Rekha Arya held a meeting with senior officials at the Sports Secretariat to review the preparations for the National Games. The officials informed the Minister that some of the necessary equipment for the events has already arrived, and the remaining sports materials are expected to reach by 10 January. The Minister also instructed the formation of a coordination team with other departments involved in the event to ensure smooth collaboration.

The meeting was attended by Special Secretary for Sports, Amit Sinha, Director, Sports and Youth Welfare, Prashant Arya, and other senior department officials.
