Minister Rekha Arya reviews sports policy implementation with officials

Dehradun, 7 Jul: State Sports Minister Rekha Arya held a review meeting with Sports Department officials in her office at the Vidhan Sabha, here, today.
The Minister stated that the department has been directed to submit a proposal in the upcoming cabinet meeting to provide out-of-turn jobs to the 2025 national medallists in the state. Additionally, instructions have been given to prepare a proposal regarding the need to create positions to permanently operate the 23 academies currently operating temporarily. She added that proposals have also been prepared to accommodate approximately 243 national medallists through out-of-turn jobs in the academies, sports universities, and other departments.

Furthermore, the Minister stated that proposals should be prepared to deputise those serving in other departments through out-of-turn employment within their parent departments.
The Minister stated that the foundation stone of the Sports University would be laid by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in Gaulapar on 29 August 2026, National Sports Day. Officials have been directed to expedite all necessary arrangements for this. The Minister stated that the resolve is to make Uttarakhand a better sports state.
The Minister added that the Sports Policy was also discussed in detail in today’s meeting, with guidelines provided to address the shortcomings of the previous Sports Policy and formulate a new policy in line with the Government of India’s Sports Policy. This includes providing a place for traditional sports, as well as adequate arrangements for para-athletes. She stated that suggestions on the Sports Policy would be sought from athletes as well as the general public, with the best suggestions being incorporated into the Sports Policy.
Special Principal Secretary for Sports, Amit Sinha, Director of Sports, Deepti Singh, Principal of Maharana Pratap Sports Complex, Rajesh Mamgain, Joint Director of Sports, Ajay Agarwal, and other departmental officials were present on the occasion.
