Haridwar, 14 Apr: Yet another case has come to light from the Jwalapur area of Haridwar where Samir Sheikh, a youth from the Muslim community has been accused of concealing his actual identity and luring a minor girl into a relationship, sexually assaulting her and subsequently pressuring her for religious conversion. The victim’s father has lodged a complaint with the police, seeking stringent legal action against the accused.
According to the complaint submitted to the police, the accused allegedly created a fake profile on social media under the name ‘Monu’ and befriended the 15-year-old student by posing as a Hindu. The family has alleged that the youth deliberately hid his real identity and kept the minor under deception while continuing the relationship over a period of time. They have identified the accused as Sameer Sheikh.
It has further been alleged that the accused lured the minor into his car from near her residence and school and took her to a secluded spot near Pul Jatwara canal embankment, where he forcibly established physical relations with her. The complaint states that he continued to exploit the victim thereafter by repeatedly promising marriage.
The family has also alleged that after his true identity came to light, the accused began exerting mental pressure on the minor to convert her religion. The situation reportedly affected the girl’s mental state to such an extent that she began showing signs of agreeing to the demand. The matter came to the fore when family members noticed unusual behaviour and questioned her, leading to the disclosure of the entire episode.
The Police officials from Jwalapur have confirmed that an investigation has been launched on the basis of the complaint. They stated that relevant social media records are being examined and details of the vehicle used in the incident are being collected. A case has been registered against the accused under appropriate sections of law.
