MoS Som Parkash emphasises promotion of local products in state

Dehradun, 28 Aug: Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Som Parkash on Monday participated in a review meeting of various schemes run in the state of Uttarakhand at the Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) auditorium at the IT Park, here.

Som Parkash said that making of more local products should be promoted within the state through self-help groups, various NGOs, training centres and startups. Special care should also be taken for marketing, packaging, branding, design and common facility centre.

The Union Minister added that work should be done to make the districts self-reliant with local products. Manufacture of local products should be encouraged. Work should be done on short and long-term policies on how the state moves forward in Ease of Doing Business. He reviewed the pending cases under the Industrial Development Scheme.

Parkash said that the DPR should be sent to the Centre as soon as possible for the construction of a Unity Mall in the state of Uttarakhand. He said that Unity Mall should be built in a place where the maximum number of people can take advantage of it. It should be widely publicised in Uttarakhand as well as in other states so that the local products of Uttarakhand there as well. Their functioning in states where unity malls have already been built should be studied. The Mall would focus on the promotion and sale of ODTP (One District, Two Products), GI products and other handicrafts, thereby increasing the livelihood of the people and bringing all the important products of the state at one place.

Director General, Industries, Rohit Meena said that, to promote local products, the state government is providing subsidies under Uttarakhand MSME, PMEGP Yojana, Chief Minister Self-Employment Scheme, Chief Minister Self-Employment Scheme Nano, etc. He said that under the One District One Product scheme of the Central Government, and the One District Two Product scheme, a total of 26 products of the state have been identified.

Director General Meena added that Haridwar district has been selected for the construction of the Unity Mall in the state of Uttarakhand. The DPR of Unity Mall would be sent to the central government within the stipulated time.

Director, DPIIT, Supriya Deosthali, VC, HRDA, Anshul Singh, Additional Secretary Attar Singh, Mrityunjay Singh and others were present in the meeting.
