Dehradun, 1 Jan: An MoU was signed between Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) and Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) under Union Ministry of Home Affairs at the Secretariat here today in the presence of Chief Secretary Radha Raturi. This MoU aims to promote tourism in the border areas of the state. The Chief Secretary highlighted that under the Government of India’s flagship project, the Vibrant Village Programme, the primary goal is the comprehensive development of border villages and providing resources for the villagers’ livelihoods.

The Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board is expanding heli-services in border areas to boost tourism. Well recognised religious tourist spots such as Adi Kailash, Om Parvat, and Timmarsain Mahadev, located in Uttarakhand’s border region, are currently challenging to reach due to inaccessible roads. To address this issue, the Uttarakhand Government has decided to provide heli-services for tourists, by operating from helipads within the ITBP’s jurisdiction. Additionally, these helipads will be used to deliver medicines to villagers in Vibrant Villages during emergencies and transport them to higher medical centres in case of medical emergencies.

It may be reminded there that the ITBP is stationed at forward posts in three border districts of Uttarakhand, namely, Uttarkashi, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh.

Also present on this occasion were Secretary Sachin Kurve, Inspector General with the Northern Frontier, ITBP, Sanjay Gunjyal and officers from the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board and the ITBP.
