Mussoorie, 7 Jan: In view of the continuously increasing cold in Mussoorie, the Municipal Council has undertaken an initiative with a humane approach. Warm blankets were distributed today to the permanent employees and sanitation workers of the municipality to provide them relief from the cold.

The programme was held in the Municipal Council Hall, where Municipal Chairperson Meera Saklani distributed blankets to the employees. On this occasion, Saklani said that the municipal employees are the backbone of the administration and they perform their duties with complete dedication even in difficult weather conditions like the cold. In such a situation, it is the responsibility of the municipal administration and public representatives to take care of their basic needs.
During the programme, the Municipal Chairperson made an important announcement stating that, until now, the benefit of blanket distribution was given only to permanent employees, while contractual employees were deprived of it. She clarified that this system will now be changed and blankets will also be distributed to contractual employees in the coming days. The process for this will be completed soon.
In view of the increasing cold, the municipality has also arranged bonfires at major squares and intersections of the city. However, the Municipal Chairperson expressed concern, saying that the firewood kept for the bonfires is disappearing before it can be burned in many places, which is a serious matter. She appealed to the public to allow the bonfires to burn so that poor labourers, passers-by, and local people can get relief from the cold. She also said that, if there are areas where bonfire arrangements are not being made, the municipality should be informed so that this relief measure can reach every corner of the city during the cold season.
Chairperson Meera Saklani said that the entire focus of the municipality is on the overall development of Mussoorie and providing better facilities to the public. Recently, street vendors were removed from Mussoorie’s Mall Road and shifted to a controlled and designated location so that they can get a permanent source of employment and the Mall Road can be made beautiful and organised. She said that the municipality’s objective is not only to carry out development work, but also to make the lives of employees and the general public more convenient.

Councillors Gauri Thapliyal, Shivani Bharti, Pawan Thalwal, Vishal Kharola, Tax Superintendent Anirudh Chaudhary, OS Chandraprakash Badoni, and Sanjeev Kavi were present on this occasion.
