Dehradun, 16 Sep: Dehradun witnessed severe waterlogging and disaster-like conditions in several parts of the city following heavy rainfall last night. With rivers and drains swelling beyond their limits, the Rispana and Bindal rivers caused damage to houses, retaining walls, bridges, shops and residential areas situated along their banks. The Dehradun Municipal Corporation also lent a significant hand in rescue and relief operations throughout today in the city.
In view of the gravity of the situation, Municipal Commissioner Namami Bansal, conducted an on-site inspection of the affected localities this morning. The inspection was carried out in the Mohini Road, Balbir Road and Chandranagar MDDA Bridge areas, after which the Municipal Corporation immediately deployed its Quick Response Team.
Debris brought in by the rain was promptly cleared with the help of JCB and Bobcat machines, while water pumps were pressed into service to ensure early drainage of accumulated water. Relief work and cleanliness drives are being undertaken on a war footing, with strict instructions that no laxity will be tolerated and the convenience of the public must remain the foremost priority.
Teams of the Municipal Corporation continued to remain engaged in relief and restoration operations. Work for removal of debris, water drainage and improvement of sanitation was continuing to restore normalcy for the residents at the earliest as the report was filed this evening.
Assistant Municipal Commissioner Rajbir Singh Chauhan, ward councillors and the Chief Sanitation Inspector were also present during the inspection. The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun has assured all citizens that relief and rescue measures are being carried out without interruption and that normal conditions will soon be restored in the affected areas.
