Dehradun, 17 Nov: The student participation swelled enormously at UPES campus on the final day after witnessing an exhilarating first day at Uurja-19. A large number of students opted for on-the-spot entries in events that were held simultaneously at multiple venues in the Bidholi campus. The students, faculty and staff watched mesmerising performances at the auditorium, grounds and the amphitheater. Over 14,000 students participated on the final day including students from Fairfield Institute of Management & Technology, New Delhi; Delhi University; DIT University, Graphic Era University and Uttaranchal University apart from UPES. The most popular events which attracted maximum participations included ‘War of Bands’, ‘Footloose’, ‘Gully Cricket’, ‘Tomorrow Land’, ‘IPL Bidding’, ‘Talent Hunt’, ‘Barati Dance’, ‘Abinay’ and ‘Mr & Ms UURJA’.
According to Arun Dhand, Sr Director, UPES, the prominent external judges invited to evaluate the events were Actor/Director Surendra Bhandari and Anuj Joshi for ‘Abhinay’; AIR Artist Rita Sharma and National Award Winner for Kathak & Classical Dances Meetu Bansal for ‘Talent Hunt’; State President, Shiromani Akali Dal, Delhi, Amarjit Singh Bhasin; Amisha Verma, Miss North India 2018, and Alisha Madan, Mrs India Worldwide 2018.
In ‘Mr & Ms Uurja-19’, the title of ‘Mr Uurja’ went to Naman Narnolia, while Muskan Kansal was crowned ‘Ms Uurja’. The winners received cash prizes and free gift Vouchers from the sponsors. In ‘Nukkad Natak’, the team from UPES, ‘Vultus – the Face Shifter’, came first, while ‘Paradigm Group’ was second. The winners’ trophy in ‘Abhinay’ went to the ‘Paradigm Group’, while the ‘Xhileration Dramatic Society’ came second, both from UPES. The winners took home a Cash Prize of Rs 20,000, while the ‘Runners-Up’ got Rs 10,000. Shrishti Taneja won the ‘Best Actor Award’, while Vaibhav won the ‘Best Director Award’. In ‘Talent Hunt’, Shivam Sharma clinched the ‘first’ position while Keshav came ‘second’ and Abhijeet was ‘third’ – all were from UPES. In Turban Tying competition, Jaswinder Singh was ‘1st, – Jasjeet Singh ‘2nd, and Gagandeep Singh, ‘3rd – all were from UPES.
The culmination of Uurja-19 saw an enthralling stage performance by Parmish Verma – the internationally renowned Punjabi Singer & Actor who rose to prominence with his songs ‘Gaal ni Kadni’, ‘Shada’ and ‘Chirri Udd Kaa Udd’, etc. Dr Veena Dutta, Registrar, UPES, welcomed the singer.
The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Karan Singh, Deputy Director, Student Support, UPES. He made a special mention of Chief Convener Anant Prakash Mishra, Rashmi Lal, Dr Monika Manglik, Dr Priyanka Khanduja, Richa Choudhary, Ashutosh Dora, Amar Saxena, Gautam Bhatt, Nimisha Chatterjee and Dr BK Chaturvedi as special contributors to the fest. They were ably supported by student volunteers Atendev Vikram Singh, Rakshit Pancholi, Hlarshit Badani, Kanika Aggarwal, Prishanshi Saxena, Swaraj, Pranjal Singh, Sankalp Garg, Paritosh Singh and Kahkasha.
