Navy Half Marathon 2024 held in Doon

Dehradun, 10 Nov: As part of Navy Day 2024 celebrations, the National Hydrographic Office, Dehradun organised the second edition of ‘Dehradun Navy Half Marathon-2024’ (DNHM-24), here, today. This half marathon was conducted under three distance categories of 21.1 km – Sandhayak Run, 10 km – Sutlej Run and 5 Km Makar Run (non-timed) named after the classes of Survey ships of the Indian Navy.

Jaswant Ground at Garhi Cantt was the start and finish point for the run. The running route chosen for all distance categories traversed the challenging roads of Garhi Cantt and Birpur Cantt leading runners through the scenic hilly slopes including the iconic Purkul Viewpoint in Kimadi village.

The running route was invigorating and was thoroughly enjoyed by the runners. DNHM-24 saw enthusiastic participation from approximately 1100 spirited runners comprising armed forces personnel, veterans, their families and civilians from all walks of life. The participation also included a large number of IMA cadets, NCC Cadets, children studying in RIMC, other Schools, Institutes and Academies of Dehradun.

The Half Marathon was flagged off by the Chief Guest, Vice Admiral Lochan Singh Pathania, Chief Hydrographer to the Government of India. The 10 Km race was flagged off by Maj General Prem Raj, GOC, Uttarakhand Sub Area, and the 5 km fun run was flagged off by Rear Admiral Peyush Pawsey, Joint Chief Hydrographer, National Hydrographic Office.

At the end of the run, Vice Admiral Lochan Singh Pathania felicitated the winners in all categories with cash prizes. He emphasised that such events are excellent opportunities for the youth to participate in and improve their fitness. He also commended the National Hydrographic Office for the organisation and meticulous coordination of this large-scale event. The participants also expressed gratitude to the Indian Navy for organising this event and expressed happiness for the arrangements and the opportunity to participate and improve their fitness and connect with the Indian Armed Forces.
