NEP-2020: Pradhan for local contexts in school texts

HARIDWAR, 2 Mar: In the course of his visit to the state, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan held a meeting in Haridwar to review the implementation of NEP-2020 and other educational programmes in Uttarakhand. The meeting was attended by State Education Minister Dhan Singh Rawat along with officials from the Higher and School Education departments.

Rawat stated that the Union minister in his review directed officials to incorporate local contexts into textbooks for classes 1 to 12 and also provided necessary instructions for the operation of Bal Vatika (early childhood education centers).

Minister Rawat further informed that the Union Minister was briefed on all ongoing educational programmes in the state, along with a detailed presentation on the implementation of NEP-2020. During the discussions, he requested an increase in the state’s comprehensive education budget for the financial year 2025-26. He also urged the Union Minister to align all state textbooks and the education infrastructure with the vision of NEP-2020.

Additionally, he proposed the establishment of two model colleges and a Teachers’ Training Center under the higher education sector, to which Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan responded positively.

Rawat mentioned that the Union Minister appreciated the state government’s efforts in the education sector and praised the department’s initiative in developing “Hamari Virasat evam Vibhutiyan” (Our Heritage and Eminent Personalities) books in line with NEP-2020 recommendations.

The meeting was attended by Director of Higher Education Anju Agarwal; Joint Director & RUSA in-charge,  AS Uniyal; in-charge Director of Secondary Education  Mukul Sati; in-charge Director of Basic Education, Ajay Kumar Naudiyal; and APD of Comprehensive Education, Kuldeep Gairola, along with other departmental officials.
