Dehradun, 15 Apr: To control traffic and reduce jams in the city, Doon Police have prepared a new traffic plan. During the recent long weekend, over one lakh cars bearing tourists arrived in Rishikesh, Mussoorie, and Dehradun. The sudden rush of tourists caused heavy traffic and disturbed the city’s traffic system. With the Char Dham Yatra starting from 30 April, the number of visitors is likely to increase further in the coming months.

SSP Ajay Singh said, on Monday, that talks have already been held with the construction agencies, and efforts are being made to complete the road work in the next 15 days. He also added that, since Dehradun has many tourist spots, it’s not possible to deploy police at every location. Therefore, locals and parking operators are being asked to support the administration in managing the situation.

According to the police, nearly 80,000 tourist vehicles entered Rishikesh over the past two days during the long weekend. Out of these, around 20,000 vehicles returned. To avoid such situations in future, alternate routes are being developed for Mussoorie and Rishikesh. For going to Mussoorie, the Kimadi Road will be used as an alternative route. Work is currently going on to improve this road. Similarly, Dudhli Road will be used for traffic going from Dehradun to Rishikesh. If the work on these routes is completed on time, vehicles can be diverted easily, and traffic jams can be reduced.
