Ranikhet, 29 Jun: In a significant step toward enriching practical learning in chemical sciences, the Department of Chemistry, Government Post Graduate College, Ranikhet, is organising an Online Workshop on Chemical Structure Drawing on 4 July 2025, in collaboration with MetaCHEM Academy, a platform renowned for advancing digital learning in chemistry.
This specialised online workshop aims to provide participants with hands-on training in modern methods of drawing chemical structures—a core skill for both academic research and industrial applications.
Dr Prasoon K Joshi, Coordinator and Head of the Department of Chemistry, shared that the programme has been designed to help learners move beyond conventional methods of representing molecules and adopt advanced tools for visualising chemical information.
“Accurate chemical structure drawing is fundamental to understanding molecular behaviour, communicating research findings, and innovating new compounds. This workshop will enable participants to create professional-quality diagrams with confidence,” he said.
The two-hour live session, scheduled on 4 July from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., will be conducted through Zoom. Participants will learn essential techniques, including Drawing acyclic, cyclic, heterocyclic, and polycyclic compounds; creating visual representations of biomolecules such as DNA, RNA, peptides, and sugars; converting 2D chemical diagrams into interactive 3D models; illustrating reaction mechanisms and predicting theoretical spectra; generating IUPAC names, atom numbering, and calculating molecular properties like exact mass and elemental composition.
Dr Bharat Pandey, Organising Secretary and Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, emphasised the importance of this workshop for all levels of learners, “Whether you are a BSc student, a postgraduate researcher, or an industry professional, this programme offers a valuable opportunity to acquire skills that are directly applicable in laboratories, publications, and industrial projects.”
Prof Pushpesh Pande, Principal, Government PG College, Ranikhet, who is the Patron of the workshop, stated, “We are committed to supporting initiatives that promote skill development and scientific literacy. This workshop reflects our dedication to providing our students and faculty with learning experiences aligned with current professional practices.”
A key highlight is that all participants who successfully complete the training will receive an e-certificate issued by MetaCHEM Academy, acknowledging their participation and newly acquired skills.
The workshop will be led by Dr Syed Zahid Hassan, an experienced researcher and educator who has been affiliated with prestigious institutions including Tokyo Metropolitan University (Japan), IISER Pune, and POSTECH, South Korea.
