Mussoorie, 9 Jan: People protested today against the ban on entry of all types of vehicles at both the barriers of Mussoorie Mall Road from 4 to 10 p.m. Slogans were raised against the SDM Mussoorie Dr Deepak Saini.

Following the instructions of the SDM, from today, both the barriers of Mussoorie Mall Road were completely closed for all types of vehicles from 4 to 10 p.m. This caused a traffic jam at both the barriers. There was a long queue of vehicles and people had to face a lot of problems. On this occasion, the local people and tourists also strongly opposed the instructions of SDM Mussoorie.

It was stated that the rules are being made by the administration without thinking, due to which the tourists are facing a lot of trouble. This is adversely affecting tourism in Mussoorie. Mussoorie AAP’s district spokesperson Prakash Rana and former councillor Darshan Rawat strongly opposed the closure of the barriers.

They said that, as per the bylaws of the Municipality, the barriers of the Mall Road remain completely open from the month of December to February because the movement of people on these two Mall Roads is negligible. They said that, before making Mall Road a vehicle free zone, parking arrangements will have to be made so that people can come on foot. No such arrangement has been made. They threatened to continue the protest till the decision is not withdrawn.

Office Superintendent of Mussoorie Municipal Council, Mahavir Rana said that according to the bylaws of the municipality, both the barriers of Mall Road were open 24 hours for all the people from December to February and from March to November, all types of vehicles are restricted. The police had to work hard to control the crowd and extra force was deployed at both the barriers.
