Dehradun, 9 Jan: Dehradun Cyber Police Station have registered two separate First Information Reports (FIRs), one of which involves the creation of deepfake videos featuring the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister. A case has come to light in which artificial intelligence (AI) technology was used to generate deepfake videos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in connection with the sensitive Ankita Bhandari murder case. In the other instance, a complaint has also been lodged regarding the spread of obscenity on social media platforms using AI technology. Dehradun Police have registered both cases at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Dehradun.

The complaint over the alleged deepfake post has been filed by Rohit, a resident of Sahastradhara Road in Dehradun. In his statement to the police, Rohit mentioned that he is a businessman by profession and has no affiliation with any political party. He has claimed that he filed the complaint as a vigilant citizen. He also noted that misuse of technology to release misleading videos in a sensitive matter like the Ankita Bhandari murder case is a loathsome act. Rohit further claimed that through a Facebook profile named Sumitra Bhullar, a planned conspiracy was executed using AI and deepfake technology to mimic the faces and voices of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. This fraudulent video presents fake and objectionable statements regarding the Ankita Bhandari murder case which are entirely detached from reality.

In the second case, Sanjay Rana, a resident of Gumaniwala in Rishikesh, has lodged a complaint. He stated that while platforms like ChatGPT and others adhere to legal and cyber security standards, the Grok AI available on the X (formerly Twitter) platform is being used for extremely serious, objectionable, and illegal activities. Sanjay Rana informed the police that to verify the authenticity of his concerns, he uploaded a photo of himself in normal clothes to Grok AI and gave a command, after which an obscene version of his photo was generated instantly. He has provided screenshots of this as evidence to the Cyber Crime Police. The victim described this as digital sexual harassment, a violation of privacy, and an act that insults the dignity of women and promotes criminal behaviour.

STF SSP Navneet Bhullar stated that two separate cases have been registered and the investigation has been handed over to a specialist team. Following the investigation, further legal action will be initiated against the social media platforms involved in the misuse of AI technology.
